Ergonomics Check Point
The most important thing is to eliminate as much as possible the need to manually lift or place materials. For example, moving materials on work surfaces at the same height or using the aid of mechanical means. A good idea is to use shelves, side tables, racks, platforms, or workbenches for storage where materials can be placed close to the transportation height. Another important point is to advise all workers on the correct techniques for lifting and placing materials. The procedure to follow is to handle materials right in front of the body without turning it, place the feet apart, keep the back straight, and raise or lower the load using the muscular strength of the legs (not the back) and the grip of the hands.
It is advisable to lift and place heavy loads slowly and at a steady pace, without jerking or tugging. In addition, use a rocker, a wheeled bag, or some other similar means so that materials can be transported without lifting them much off the ground. There is a wide variety of manual mechanical aids for handling: floor hydraulic cranes, hydraulic lifting tables, lever cranes, chain cranes, etc., and they should be tried before resorting to manual handling. Finally, avoid placing materials on the ground; it is good to use platforms or shelves that have a certain height.
