Ergonomics Check Point
The best way to change the location of machines and workstations is to discuss with workers how to reduce the frequency and distance of material movement. This would be the correct way to move materials within work areas and between different areas of work. Work elements should be arranged in such a way that those coming from a preceding workstation can go directly to the next work area, that is, the arrangement of different work areas should be in line with the sequence of work performed, so that work elements arriving from one area can be used by the next area without having to travel a long distance. As much as possible, operations should be combined to reduce the need to move materials between operations.
Using "pallets" or a "stock" with work elements is interesting, so that elements arriving from a workstation can be easily moved to the next workstation or work area. In addition, when modifying the layout of the work area, it must be ensured that transport routes are clear. A flexible work area layout that can adapt to changes in workflow (for example, due to product changes or to produce several different products) is a productive layout. In conclusion, minimizing the need to move materials by improving the layout of the work area is the safest way to save time and effort, and thereby increase productivity.
